Period Eight in FENG SHUI

In a more advanced practice of Feng Shui known as Flying Stars, the numbers in the original Lo Shu Grid as shown below ‘fly’ around the grid in a set pattern and create what is known as ‘Time Dimension Feng Shui.’

The numbers in the grid move in the same set sequence regardless of the period, therefore the number 1 (North) flies to the Southwest, the number 2 (Southwest) flies to East, the number 3 (East) flies to the Southeast and so on.

This current period of eight places the number ‘8’ in the centre grid and it runs from 2004 to 2023.

The number eight is an Earth number and the central grid is an Earth area.  The number 8 in the original grid is situated in the Northeast and that is an Earth area signifying the mountain.  The mountain implies solidarity and stability rather than change and that is the prevailing energy for this 20-year period.

As well as flying stars for each of nine 20-year periods, there are also annual and monthly flying star changes occurring.

All of these changes have an influence on the energy of a space, therefore affecting the balance of the energy in your home and work.

As an example, in the current 20-year period the centre grid is currently housing the strong number 8 star, which is the ultimate auspicious star in Feng Shui, also known as one of the three ‘white’ stars, so enhancing the centre of your home with earth items such as crystals or pebbles is beneficial.  

In the 2012 Flying Star chart the number 6 star also an auspicious ‘white’ star is in the central grid. 

This is a metal star which also represents heaven luck.   This is auspicious for the whole family as it invites powerfully auspicious heaven energy into the home.

In the exhaustive cycle of the Five Elements Metal exhausts Earth so this does have the effect of weakening the powerful number 8 star.  It therefore makes it doubly important to enhance the centre with earth elements to maintain its strength. 

By introducing the Fire element in the form of light into the centre, the Fire is enhancing the Earth and therefore strengthening it.  The most auspicious combination to create this strength is a crystal chandelier, which represents the best of Fire and Earth through light and crystals.

At the same time as enhancing the element of Earth in the centre the Fire is also ‘destroying’ the Metal of the number 6 star.

The Five Elements is a fundamental part of all Feng Shui practice as it is necessary to analyse the effect each number or ‘star’ has on each point of the compass.

Each of the twelve lunar months will also have an effect on the energy in any area so by having a good working knowledge of the Five Elements it is possible to make the most of the very strong central star ‘8’ in this current 20-year period.

Your home has its own Lo Shu Grid based on when it was built or last renovated.  To retain positive Yang Energy in your home it is recommended that homes be updated to bring them into the current period of new positive energy.  Any home built since 2004 or renovated by changing the flooring, the roof and the front door will benefit from the energies of this current period of eight.

FENG SHUI in the Office

Do you work for a corporation, a small business, do you work for a company and have a base at home or do you have your own business?

Whatever the answer, you can use the practice of Feng Shui to enhance your personal space at work or in your home office to improve your:

• Chances on the promotion ladder
• Recognition by those important to your career
• Salary increases and bonuses
• More clients for your own business

Working in an office environment may limit your opportunity to enhance your space but even then there are several ways to make the most of your working day.

If you know your personal Kua number based on your year of birth (visit www.abundance-chi.com to calculate) you can use your four auspicious directions to invite positive vibrations into your space.

There are several Feng Shui basics that are important to get right to begin with.

• Based on your Kua number are you facing one of your auspicious directions as you work?
• Is your office a regular shape (rectangular or square)?
• Do you have a solid wall behind your chair?
• Do you have an office door or a window behind you?
• Is your office at the end of a long corridor?
• Do you have a solid wall directly in front of you?
• Are there any sharp edges of walls or cupboards directly pointing towards you?
• Is there a toilet door facing you or a toilet directly above you?
• Do you sit directly facing a colleague?

If you can ensure you face an auspicious direction (preferably your most auspicious direction) and you are able to orientate your desk so that you have a solid wall behind you and not in front, there are no sharp edges pointing at you and you are not directly ‘confronting’ a work colleague you have a good starting point to go from.

Keeping your desk clear and tidy helps keep your head clear allowing your thoughts to be productive and focused.

Completing work quickly and efficiently will allow more work to come to you and this is especially important when you have your own business.

The lighting in your office can play a major role in how you feel when working.  If it is too bright and harsh it can cause headaches, strain your eyes and make you easily tired.  If it is too dim it makes you feel tired and lethargic, lacking in ideas and focus.  Natural light is auspicious however if it is coming in from a south facing window it can be too bright during the mid part of the day so having window dressing to diffuse the sunshine will help.

These are all basic suggestions that will point you in the right direction.  There is so much more to consider and we will investigate this deeper in the future.

Maximise FENG SHUI with Numbers

Numbers play a very important part in the practice of Feng Shui.

There are nine numbers, 1-9 and each of them are allocated a primary and secondary location around the compass, the final number takes the central position in the original grid, known as the Lo Shu Grid, and it was set out as follows:

These nine numbers, among many other things, have an impact on the location they occupy, on each person based on their personal Kua number, on their animal signs at birth, the seasons of the year, the annual animal signs and on enhancing or exhausting particular areas to maximise personal Feng Shui practice.

The numbers and the points of the compass are as follows:

1 – North – Water - Career

2 – Southwest – Earth – Love and Relationships

3 – East – Wood - Health

4 – Southeast – Wood - Wealth

5 – Centre - Earth

6 – Northwest – Metal - Mentor

7 – West – Metal – Family Harmony

8 – Northeast – Earth – Education and Study

9 – South – Fire – Fame and Recognition

Personal Kua numbers first of all identify whether you are an East or a West group person and secondly show which four of the compass directions are auspicious for you and which four are inauspicious for you.

One thing to remember is that individual auspicious locations will likely have a different meaning to those listed above.  The above list represents what is known in Feng Shui as the Eight Aspirations Formula.  The exciting thing is however that the above locations, together with your own individual auspicious directions can both be enhanced to activate for any desired aspiration.

In the more advanced practice of Flying Star Feng Shui the nine numbers ‘fly’ around the compass points in a set sequence during a particular 20-year time period (the current period being from 2004-2023, which is period 8 and sees the number eight in the central position on the grid); on an annual basis (the central Flying Star number for 2012 is 6 and this joins the number eight star in the central position); and on a monthly lunar basis.  Each of these numbers take the element associated with it to the square it enters.  This changes the energy in each of the locations, enhancing, exhausting or destroying the resident element of an area each year.

Once you have a good working knowledge of the Five Elements (check them out at www.abundance-chi.com) you can use the numbers associated with your Kua number to maximise the aspirations important to you and suppress the negative energies of the numbers inauspicious for you.

The four auspicious locations based on your Kua number refer to your overall wealth and good fortune, your health, your love life and your education and personal growth.

In the basic practice of Feng Shui, to allow you to maximise the use of these auspicious directions it is important to discover the ‘resident’ number of each of your auspicious directions and the element relating to that area.

Can You Make MONEY with Feng Shui?

Whenever most of us think of wealth we immediately think of having lots of that five letter word – MONEY – the image we immediately visualise when we thing about wealth.

Wouldn’t we all love to have a money tree?

Ok so it’s a dream, however, if money is your desire how do you visualise getting it?  Is it through your work or career, or do you imagine winning the lottery or receiving an unexpected windfall?

Using the practice of Feng Shui you can enhance your home to improve your career luck and you can enhance your home to improve your money luck.

In Feng Shui money is symbolised by water and having water features in your career and wealth areas is auspicious.  It is very important to remember that the water must flow inwards inviting money in rather than having it flow out.

One of the Eight Aspirations of Feng Shui refers to career luck and its universal location is in the North.  The North is also the Water location so having a water feature here will enhance your career luck.  If you have the space a six-tier water feature will utilize the power of heaven (6-Northwest-Metal enhances Water) to help further your career success and by extension the amount of money you will receive through that career.

One thing to remember is that the size of the water feature should match the size of your space; too big and it will overwhelm, or drown, your chances of more money; too small and it will be ineffective.  In the practice of Feng Shui balance is all important.

The Southeast is the universal location for long-term wealth rather than short term gains.  Water feeds the Wood of this location so again having a water feature in the Southeast is also an auspicious enhancer.  When enhancing this area for money, using dark blue as a decorative colour either in a picture or as curtains, cushions or a rug is the most auspicious to encourage long-term financial benefits.

Water features can be table-top decorative ones or fish tanks with small lively fish. The important thing is to ensure the water is Yang and moving rather than Yin and still.  Yang is movement and positive energy and it is important to create lots of Yang energy in the home, Yin is stillness and negative energy and is used to suppress negative vibrations.

When you know your personal Kua number based on your year of birth (see www.abundance-chi.com to calculate your Kua number) you will also have four directions that, when tapped and enhanced, will improve your life.  The most auspicious direction (known as Sheng Chi) can be enhanced for money luck.    How you enhance it will depend on its direction.

As an example the money plant (or jade plant) a succulent plant with rounded leaves can be placed in the East, the Southeast, both Wood areas, and also in the South (Wood feeds Fire in the Five Elements of Feng Shui.)
