PERIOD EIGHT AND THE YEAR OF THE YIN WOOD GOAT

PERIOD EIGHT AND THE YEAR OF THE YIN WOOD GOAT

When looking at the annual chart for 2015 it struck me that there is more to this year than initially meets the eye.

Remember Period 8?  From 2004-2023 we are in Period 8 of 9 20-year Periods. This 8 White Earth element Star is associated with wealth and has its home in the central palace of the Luo-Shu Grid for the entire 20-years.  It is worth remembering that it will have an influence on each Annual Chart.

On this 2015 Chart particularly it meets with the Annual Star numbers in the Centre, Northwest, East and Southeast Palaces to create He-Tu combinations.  What does this mean?  They create new elements that will have an impact on the Palace concerned.

Beginning in the Centre.  The 3-8 combination creates Wood.  The Annual 3 Jade Wood Star is related to disputes/disagreements/arguments making the centre of any property/area/country/or the earth prone to dispute.  The 3-8 combination will serve to strengthen the Wood element making disharmony more likely in the short term.

The Northwest has a 4-9 combination which creates Metal.  The Annual 4 Green Wood Star is related to learning and romance so while this is generally a usable Star it will be somewhat overwhelmed by its controlling element of Metal.  Metal is the intrinsic element of the Northwest.

The East has a 1-6 combination which creates Water.  The East is a positive location for 2015 with the 1 White Water Star of future prosperity.  The 1-6 combination will serve to strengthen the timely 1 Water Star while at the same time feeding the inherent Wood element of the East.  This should help the eldest son in a family thrive.

The Southeast has a 2-7 combination which creates Fire.  The Southeast has the 2 Earth Illness Star in place for the year and the 2-7 combination will serve to strengthen its effects as Fire creates Earth in the productive cycle of the Five Elements.  It will also weaken the intrinsic Wood element of the palace.  Care should therefore be taken to avoid this area if you are prone to ill-health.

During February all the Luo-Shu numbers return to their original home thereby doubling the effects of these combinations.  For example in the centre there is Period 8 combining first with the annual 3 and secondly with the monthly 3.

The combinations between Palace and Annual, Period and Annual as well as Annual and Monthly Charts are all different.  This is what makes the study of Feng Shui so fascinating and individual analyses so unique.

Feng Shui and Missing Corners-Parents

The Eight Aspirations of Feng Shui are Career (north), Education and Study (northeast), Health and Longevity (east), Wealth (southeast), Fame and Recognition (south), Love and Relationships (southwest), Family (west) and Heaven and Mentor (northwest.)

When a location (corner) relating to an aspiration important to you is missing in the Big Tai Chi of your property the first thing to establish is whether this same location is missing in the Small Tai Chi of your living space.  When the locations are missing in both the Big and the Small Tai Chi it will prove difficult for you to achieve your desires.

Two of the most important locations in the Tai Chi is the Northwest (Heaven and Mentor) and the Southwest (Love and Relationships.)  These are the areas of the heads of the home or in a working environment the areas relating to management, either male (Northwest) or female (Southwest.)

Northwest and Southwest
In the Eight Aspirations the Southwest is the location of relationships in their many forms.  As well as intimate partnerships, it signifies the family bond, friendships with people you care about, your work colleagues, business associates and casual acquaintances.  If the Southwest of your home is missing it makes it difficult for you to activate the very important life skill of harmonious inter-personal associations.  It will make it particularly difficult for females as the Southwest is also the location of the female.  This is usually interpreted as the mother of the house however it just as likely signifies a female in a position of power and authority in the business world.  If you have a missing Southwest in the Big Tai Chi of the home it is important to locate the Southwest of the Small Tai Chi in your living area.  Even if this is not an auspicious location based on your Kua number, in the Eight Aspirations it is significant.

The Northwest is the location of Heaven and Mentor luck; it is also the location of the male.  If there is a missing corner here it will impact significantly on the success of the man of the house.  Achievement may remain just out of reach.  In the corporate world you will lack the support of your superiors and when promotions are there for the taking you will likely be overlooked.  Without the support of a mentor; which can be someone in the family, your bosses or - if you run your own business - like minded individuals who are happy to give you a helping hand, then success will remain elusive.  Again even if this is not an auspicious location based on your Kua number, if you are male and aspire to greatness, it is an area to pay attention to.  If you are an East group person the Northwest will be one of your inauspicious locations.  This means you should not be spending time in the area if you can avoid it.  The most important thing is to ensure it is not a missing corner either in the Big Tai Chi of the home or the Small Tai Chi of the living room.

The Southwest also relates to Earth; the Northwest to Heaven.  Together they signify male and female; the ultimate Yang and Yin energies; both vital to creating harmony in the home and in a working situation.

Regardless of your Kua number and your auspicious and inauspicious locations, they are two areas that, when present, can bring harmony and good fortune.  When they are missing, these positive energies may well remain elusive and just out of reach.

Feng Shui Inauspicious Numbers 5-7

There are two numbers left of the nine numbers in the Feng Shui Lo-Shu Grid and they are both stars to be very wary of.

Number Five (5) Yellow Star This is potentially the most dangerous of the inauspicious numbers and as it occupies 45o of the compass, knowing its location for the year is vital.  Its original home is the central grid, an extremely bad location for the family when it appears here because this area is also the heart of the home.

The five yellow is bad news for anyone running their own business and can bring serious consequences if it is not kept under control.  As an Earth star the best thing to exhaust this number is an all-metal six rod wind chime.  The sound of metal on metal will dissipate the negative energy being created.  In contrast sound and movement caused by banging, renovating, digging or major renovations will activate the worst of this star.

Fire (light) or the colour red will also strengthen its power as will the presence of crystals.  Wherever this inauspicious star resides in any year the area should be kept quiet and dimmed.

In 2012 its location is the wealth area of the Southeast.  This will have a negative effect on the fortunes of the Dragon and Snake born whose locations are also the Southeast.

The Eight Mansions Formula, also known as the Eight Palaces, in Feng Shui is a personalised Formula.  It is based on your lunar year of birth.  When anyone has the Kua number 5 this is changed to one of the other Earth numbers depending on whether they are male or female.  The male takes the number 8 Earth star of the Northeast and the female takes the number 2 Earth star of the Southwest.

Number Seven (7) Red Star The number seven red star was auspicious during period seven which ended in 2004.  Since then it has reverted to its deadly and dangerous nature.  As the star of the West it signifies robbery,  bloodshed and violence connected with the Metal element.

During 2012 this inauspicious number doubles in intensity as it has flown into the Northwest, also a Metal area.  Keep sharp Metal implements out of this location to safeguard the males of the family.   This is an area to avoid for the year if you are the breadwinner of the family; a father or grandfather.

The exhausting element of Metal is Water however whether you can use this remedy will depend on the location of the number seven.  A moving Water feature is vital in the Northwest to weaken the negative effects of this red star, which will seriously affect the fortunes of the male as well as the astrological animals; the Boar and the Dog.  While the Northwest is not the place for bright lights keeping this location well lit for the year will weaken the effects of this negative and dangerous star.   As an alternative to lights add red cushions or hang red curtains to weaken the number seven star using Yin Fire.  Keep the area of the number seven flying star quiet.  During 2012 remove wind chimes and media equipment from the area to avoid activating its malevolence.

Historically the number seven has been identified as a lucky number, a number of wisdom.  In ancient times the seventh son of the seventh son was said to be empowered with intuitive healing skills, making them excellent biomedical or research scientists, doctors and healers.  They were also said to be able to see into the future.

Seven more Sevens (7)
Pythagoras called 7 the perfect number with triangle (3) and the square (4)
Seven Chakra points in the body
Seven seas
Seven wonders of the Ancient World
Seven days of the week
Seven continents
Seven colours of the rainbow

Lucky, or unlucky? As in any Feng Shui Formula, prevention is better than cure.

Your Career using Feng Shui

As you saw in A – Auspicious Aspirations, one of the Eight Aspirations in Feng Shui focuses on Career Luck.

Its universal direction is the North, which is a Water element area.

This is the place to focus your attention, in your home or office, if career is important to you.

If you are starting out on your career path, having a Mentor, either outside the home or someone older in your family, to support and encourage you, can give you a head start.

The Northwest is the area relating to Mentor Luck and fortuitously it is the area known as Big Metal.

In the Five Elements of Feng Shui Metal ‘creates’ Water, so activating the North with metallic objects is auspicious.

The Northwest is the area of the male and it is also known as ‘Heaven’s Gate.’

By activating the North with elements relating to this Yang masculine area you are inviting the positive Chi Energy of heaven necessary to give you a helping hand on your career path.

Metal is a Yang element, so displaying wind chimes in the North will invite lots of Yang Energy. A six-rod hollow metal wind chime is the most auspicious (six is the number of the Northwest, of heaven.)

You can also house your television or music centre here.  Plenty of Yang Chi Energy will invite plenty of support.

In addition, enhancing the area with the element of the North, which is Yang Water, invites lots of positive Chi Energy into the space.

The Water must be Yang (moving Water) and a perfect combination of the Northwest and the North is a six-tier water feature in your home (six is the number of the Northwest; one is the number of the North.)  The Water should be falling towards you and not away from you otherwise any good fortune created by the water feature is going elsewhere.

One major taboo to avoid:  Water is extremely inauspicious when displayed in a bedroom, so if you live in an apartment and the North is your bedroom then the best solution is to display the image of a Turtle or a Tortoise instead.

The turtle provides support so in an ideal situation will be behind you.  However, as long as it is in the North it will work its magic.   Please, bear in mind - no Water in the bedroom - ever!

To complete our exploration of the areas of the North, the Northeast is the universal area relating to Education and Study Luck (to personal development) and in a new career this is also an area important to the positive development of your future.

The Northeast is an Earth area.  Enhancing with Earth elements and light (Fire) will activate the luck of personal development.

An auspicious image is the crystal globe, or a globe made with precious and semi-precious gemstones.  This is especially relevant if your business or career is international.

In addition, light (Fire in the Five Elements) enhances the Earth element so bright light is auspicious.  If used creatively it can enhance the crystal element making the area come alive with positive Yang Chi Energy.

One final point:  Stay focused on your goal.  Work every day towards your goal.  Your contribution is important for these enhancements to work effectively.

Next time we will look at D - Dining Room.
